Educating Impoverished Girls
Compassion Beyond Borders funds the education of poor and vulnerable girls in Latin America, South Asia and East Africa. Educating girls is the single most effective means for achieving human development and overcoming world poverty according to the United Nations, the World Bank and UNICEF.
CBB educates the poorest of the poor, the most disadvantaged girls in the developing world: orphans, refugees, ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples, daughters of single mothers, victims of gender discrimination, landless squatters, Dalits ("untouchables"), the physically handicapped, and other victims of oppression.
CBB partners with local grass-roots organizations that know the needs of their community and how to meet them. CBB's Executive Director regularly visits its projects to ensure their accountability and to coordinate their development. CBB is cost-effective--its average cost for educating a girl in the developing world is less than $60 a year. CBB's average cost for a girl in university studies is less than $1,000 annually.
100% of contributions to Compassion Beyond Borders go to educating impoverished girls, since overhead costs are funded by the Board of Directors. CBB is a federal 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
